Valeo in China

Today, Valeo China has become the biggest country within the Valeo Group in terms of sales and employees. With 31 plants, 11 R&D centers and near 19,000 employees, Valeo China has been sticking to its principle of “Be Chinese in China” to provide the right technologies to our customers.

Profile

Valeo has been present in China since 1994 with the first production sites in Wenling for Wiper Systems and in Shashi for Climate Control. In 1995, Valeo established itself in Wuhan for Lighting Systems and in Shanghai for Electrical Systems. A plant for Transmission Systems was opened in Nanjing in 1997. In 2004, Valeo China opened the first Research & Development Center in Wuhan for Lighting Systems and created the 5 Axes school in the same year to provide induction programs for new employees in line with the Group’s corporate culture. Valeo then continued to expand its business for compressors in Changchun and Lighting Systems in Foshan. In 2011, a global R&D center was established in Shenzhen dedicated to electronics expertise. Investment stepped up further with new plants opening in Shenyang for Lighting Systems,  Jingzhou and Tianjin for Thermal Systems and Wuxi for Powertrain Systems in 2013. In order to seek more inspirational ideas for open innovation, Valeo established a joint lab with Jiaotong University in 2016 and invested in the Cathay CarTech fund to expand the mobility ecosystem in China. In 2019, Valeo celebrated its 25th anniversary in China.

Research & Development Centers

Our activities

Valeo has four Business Groups (Thermal Systems, Visibility Systems, Powertrain Systems, Comfort and Driving Assistance Systems) as well as an aftermarket activity in China to offer innovative solutions aiming at reducing CO2 emissions and developing autonomous driving. 

Thermal Systems: One of the first plants in China for Valeo is dedicated to Thermal Systems in Shashi for production of air conditioning systems. Today, Valeo has extended its footprint from North China (Changchun) to South (Foshan) in the fields of thermal management of vehicles and passenger comfort in the cabin. The product portfolio comprises compressors, HVACs, Front End Modules, condensers, radiators, battery cooling, etc. Valeo is very well positioned to address the electrification trend in China in terms of Thermal Solutions.  

Visibility Systems: With a presence in Wenling, Shanghai, Changshu, Wuhan, Foshan, Wuxi, Wuhu and Shenyang in China, Valeo’s Visibility Systems aim to design and produce innovative and efficient Lighting and Wiper Systems for safer, better driving vision and for an enhanced travel experience in autonomous vehicles. The Valeo AquaBlade® technology, the innovative blade which directly dispenses the cleaning fluid received the “2019 Lingxuan Award – Annual Contribution Award in Electronics Category for China Automotive Market” by Auto Business Review. The Valeo PictureBeam Monolithic technology, the first high definition LED smart Lighting Solution, won the 2019 Innovation Awards for Franco-Chinese Teams.

Powertrain Systems: Valeo is a technology leader in powertrain electrification worldwide as well as in China. With a full range of Powertrain Solutions from low voltage to high voltage, Valeo is able to provide the electrical systems for all types of vehicles. Valeo was the first to implement the 48V technology in China in 2017 with a Chinese OEM and together with Jiaotong University, Valeo developed the first 48V pure electric car. In terms of HV solutions, Valeo joined with Siemens in the Valeo-Siemens eAutomotive joint venture, with production sites in Changzhou, Tianjin, Shenzhen and Changshu in China. 

Comfort and Driving Assistance Systems: Shenzhen is the largest production site and R&D center for Comfort and Driving Assistance Systems in China. It manufactures electronic systems from ultrasonic sensors to advanced human-machine interfaces and connected cars. The innovative InBlue® smartphone based virtual key technology originated with the CDA China team and perfectly demonstrates the transformation from “Made in China” to “Invent with China”.
