Continuous improvement

Valeo requires that all suppliers commit to making constant quality progress. The Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) system is used to monitor the ongoing improvement of their performance.

- The QRQC attitude

- SRM: a communication tool

- Reviews of failing suppliers

 The Quality Progress Contract

An individual commitment established between Valeo and the supplier.

The QRQC attitude: Quick Response Quality Control

How can we make more progress in quality? The future is decided in the field, by being in close touch with day-to-day production. Commitment from everybody is vital. Below, discover the principle of QRQC as applied by Valeo and its suppliers.

  • QRQC is a change of culture, of mindset.
  • QRQC is not a tool or a system. It is a quality culture.
  • Key factors for success: management commitment to the change of culture.
  • The key question: What did you improve yesterday?
  • Why QRQC? QRQC improves responsiveness and efficiency in problem-solving.
  • How? By defining priorities and assigning responsibilities.

QRQC is based on "San Gen Shugi". What is "San Gen Shugi"?

San Gen Shugi is a Japanese expression meaning "the three reals":

  • Gen-ba: the real place
  • Gen-butsu: the real part
  • Gen-jitsu: reality

How does one achieve success? By applying QRQC principles in the field each day, and by learning from experience in the field: NO IMAGINATION, JUST FACTS.

Supplier Relationship Management (SRM): a communication tool

SRM is an extranet portal that enables Valeo to better integrate suppliers in its processes. Two modules are currently available: IMS, or Incident Management System, and Scorecard (performance follow-up).

The goal of IMS is to provide a rapid, definitive solution to a quality problem. IMS comprises three main steps based on the QRQC approach:

Within 24 hours Within five days Within ten days

Implementation of an immediate contingency plan, to secure Valeo customers and Valeo plants.

Analysis of the root cause of the incident and the reason why this cause was not detected. Definition of an appropriate corrective action plan.

Implementation of the corrective actions and verification of their effectiveness, and systematic adoption of these actions in order to avoid any recurrence.

IMS is a tool shared by all our sites and all our suppliers. It enables efficient collaboration and the effective management of quality incidents in production.

 Reviews of failing suppliers

The Quality Progress commitment made by failing suppliers is regularly reviewed by the management of both companies.
