Production and R&D sites

Valeo operates 18 production and research and development sites throughout Germany. The newest state-of-the-art production facility was opened in mid-2022 in Wunstorf near Hanover for the production of front-end modules. The multiple production and research and development sites represent all four of Valeo’s Business Groups. Thermal Systems are being researched, developed and produced at seven Valeo sites. But also the other Business Groups, Comfort and Driving Assistance Systems, Visibility Systems and Powertrain Systems, are covered at the various German locations. The research, development and production of Comfort and Driving Assistance Systems is carried out at six locations, while Powertrain Systems is focused on at five locations. The Business Group Visibility Systems operates at two other locations.

Our site in Bietigheim-Bissingen, in particular, is not only the headquarters of the National Directorate Germany, but also an important research and development focus for Valeo in the field of Comfort and Driving Assistance Systems. It was here that a milestone of automotive history – the parking sensor – was developed and began its journey to worldwide dominance with a premium German customer. Today, this parking sensor is standard in almost every car in the world. Germany remains the home of R&D activities and the production of next-generation parking sensors and other innovative technologies in radar and environment recognition.

Valeo also has R&D activities in Germany in the fields of electric drives and battery thermal management, as well as operating a hot and cold climatic wind tunnel and a high-voltage test bench. Germany is also home to several key production and R&D sites in the field of HVAC equipment for cars, commercial vehicles and buses. The same goes for windscreen wipers, wiper motors and wiper linkages.
