Maintenance as a service
Offering long-term maintenance or Maintenance as a service is essential for Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs) due to their extended product lifecycles, which include development, production, and operations phases spanning over a decade or more. This requires continuous engineering support, including tools, interfaces, and bug-fixing capabilities, to ensure the longevity and reliability of the product. Valeo has adapted to this need by actively engaging with OEMs to provide maintenance as a service throughout the product's lifetime, rather than just at the start of production (SOP).
In addition, to enable efficient maintenance, Valeo introduced the vOS middleware that supports distributed computing and dynamic load balancing, enabling a seamless software updates.
Finally, Valeo's Modular Central Compute or Unit - a specific Computing platform designed by Valeo - allows for hardware upgrades through replaceable cartridges, ensuring that the system remains up-to-date and performs optimally.
In the following graph, we explain the different kinds of maintenance
Valeo offers beyond the warranty period.
1. Corrective maintenance involves intervening after detecting a defect or failure to restore normal system operation. This includes diagnosing and repairing software malfunctions (bugs in embedded code) or performance anomalies (degraded response times, excessive consumption). This may involve deploying over-the-air (OTA) software patches to resolve bugs.
2. Evolutive maintenance adopts a proactive approach aimed at improving, adapting, or extending the Operational Design Domain of existing functionalities.
3. Other kinds of maintenance could be offered like the cybersecurity vulnerability service which is about collecting, analyzing, prioritizing, and addressing security weaknesses across the embedded software, and connected systems. This service serves as a critical intelligence mechanism that bridges the gap between vulnerability discovery and remediation implementation.
