With its Research & Development centre of excellence, Tuam is Valeo’s worldwide reference centre for Vision Systems. It is one of the most innovative sites of the Group.

Originally established in 1982 as Connaught Electronics Ltd. (CEL) was acquired in 2007 by Valeo. Today, Valeo at Tuam is a manufacturer of automotive security products diversified into camera systems..
CEL complemented the existing Valeo detection technologies for vehicle parking and manoeuvering. In January 2011, after the successful launch of the first generation multi-camera systems to the market, Valeo Tuam site began a major expansion, and in April 2011, announced a strategic research agreement with the Connaught Automotive Research Group (CAR) at the National University of Ireland Galway.
Now stablished as a Center of Excellence and a critical strategic hub, the site’s influence extends beyond leadership in camera systems to the very forefront of automotive intelligence.
At Valeo, we strive to create a workplace based on ethics, transparency, empowerment, professionalism and teamwork. Our employees and their well-being are at the heart of our business and we believe in creating respectful and inclusive workplaces based on these values. We develop the technology for tomorrow’s automobile – what about your development?

Research Center
As part of Valeo’s Brain Division, the Tuam site is a premier R&D and Production hub focused on the design, manufacture, sales of components and global delivery of advanced automotive systems. Tuam remains central to Valeo’s mission of delivering the integrated “brains” and “eyes” necessary for the future of autonomous driving.
While maintaining its status as the Global Headquarters for the Vision Product Line, Tuam has expanded its strategic footprint to become a core R&D Centre for both the Compute (ACUS) and AnSWer (Software) Product Lines, developing the processing hardware and software architectures with artificial intelligence that define the modern vehicle.
Tuam is a winner of multiple awards, including the “Use of Research and Development” award at the 2018 Invest in Ireland Awards organised by the Industrial Development of Ireland Body (IDA) and winner of the “Best use of Robotics” at the the Manufacturing and Supply Chain Awards in 2019.
Innovations engineered in Tuam are deployed globally, with production across the world at Valeo sites in Europe, North America and Asia in line with the Group’s strategy to serve automotive customers locally.
The significant contributions from the Tuam teams are instrumental in Valeo’s success, leading General Motors (GM) to recognize Valeo as their Supplier of the Year in the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) category for the fourth consecutive year in 2026.
