Valeo announces upgrade of Valeo Smart Safety 360 to democratize Highway Navigation on Autopilot

Valeo Smart Safety 360 (VSS360) now include Highway Navigation on Autopilot (NOA), bringing high-end automated driving capabilities to the mass market

VSS360 democratizes Level 2 autonomy by offering a high-performance, cost-optimized, and scalable platform

The system achieves full 360° coverage and handles the complete highway and expressway driving cycle

April 24, 2026 – Beijing, China – At Auto China 2026, Valeo presents a major functional expansion of Valeo Smart Safety 360 (VSS360), its scalable system that enables the removal of individual Electronic Control Units (ECU) by using the smart Front camera as central compute for other ADAS sensors. This cost-optimized ADAS solution offers best-in-class driving performance and sensor fusion while being easy to integrate in existing vehicle architectures.

The upgraded VSS360 now supports Highway Navigation on Autopilot (NOA), bringing high-end automated driving capabilities to the mass market. The solution has been in series production in China since October 2025 for a major OEM.

“Valeo is the world leader in ADAS systems and our teams are committed to developing the best technologies and to making them affordable to all” says Marc Vrecko, CEO of Valeo Brain Division. “By adding Highway Navigation on Autopilot to our solution, we are delivering a high-value, mass-market solution to contribute to safer roads and more comfortable driving for everyone.”

Bringing High-End Safety Features to Entry-Level Vehicles

By integrating Highway Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) in the VSS360 solution, Valeo is bringing a high-level driver assistance feature that allows the vehicle to follow a navigation route autonomously under driver supervision.

The system is engineered to provide a hands-on driving experience that prioritizes safety, regulatory compliance, and driver comfort. Its development leverages mature computer vision foundations and a highly adaptable system architecture, ensuring reliability and scalability.

While traditional Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) simply maintains speed, NOA-equipped vehicles can automatically change lanes to overtake slower traffic, navigate highway interchanges and transitions and adjust speed based on map data and traffic flow.

By combining VSS360 with a dedicated parking ECU, the platform effectively democratizes Level 2 autonomy. Relying on a simpler architecture, it enables the shift from an exclusive premium feature to an accessible standard across all market segments.

Achieving Full 360° Coverage

The VSS360 with NOA solution achieves full 360° field-of-view coverage through a sensor suite integrating front, surround, and rear cameras with front and corner radars alongside ultrasonics, to master complex highway and urban expressway navigation.

Handling the complete highway and expressway driving cycle

The NOA system translates its precise perception and robust computing into five core operational modules designed to handle the complete highway and expressway driving cycle, starting with Single Lane Driving, which manages steady-state cruising, vehicle following, and coming to a complete stop with clear identification of the last passable point.

The system further masters Ramp In/Out maneuvers by planning smooth trajectories for merging and diverging, while Lane Change functionality executes automated maneuvers—either via driver command or system suggestion—only after assessing surrounding traffic for safe gaps.

This is complemented by Intelligent Speed Control, which dynamically calculates the optimal vehicle speed by balancing legal limits, curve adjustments, and navigation targets, and is rounded out by Smart Avoidance, which ensures the vehicle can safely navigate around or stop for traffic cones in construction zones.

High-End Automation for All

With the implementation of stringent new regulation, OEMs are facing new challenges to deliver high-level safety features without inflating the price of entry-level vehicles.

Historically, advanced ADAS has been reserved for premium models. VSS360 changes this dynamic by offering a high-performance system designed specifically for the mass and emerging market.

With VSS360, manufacturers can simplify development, accelerate time-to-market, and optimize costs by removing individual Electronic Control Units (ECU) while having a limited impact on the vehicle architecture. The “one-stop shop” approach offers a comprehensive, integrated solution combining sensors, software intelligence, and engineering services to scale from basic safety to Level 2 automation on a unified platform.
