The Steering Wheel Electronics combines Hands-On Detection (HOD) and steering wheel heating function to ensure that the driver is still “in the loop” and guarantees safe transitions between manual and assisted/automated driving. The Hands-On Detection (HOD) function is also relevant for European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro-NCAP) testing from 2023. It prevents accidents while driving assistance systems like lane keeping function are active.
