Valeo and Nissan Sign a Major Contract for Smart EV Charging with V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid)

  • Valeo and Nissan sign a major contract for the commercialization  of Valeo’s bidirectional charging stations in Europe. This agreement supports Nissan’s V2G roadmap in Europe, starting in the UK, by providing bidirectional charging technology for eligible Nissan electric vehicles.

  • Valeo also expands its charging portfolio for Nissan customers with the introduction of a new Smart Unidirectional (V1G) AC charging station, compliant with the UK EV Smart Charging (EVSCP) standard.

  • The agreement redefines Nissan electric vehicles as flexible energy assets, capable of supporting both individual mobility needs and broader grid services.

  • eiled at the Power2Drive Europe Exhibition that is taking place at Messe Munich from June 23 till 25 (Valeo Hall 6, Booth 416).

22 June 2026, Paris (France) — Valeo, a global leader in automotive technology, and Nissan, a pioneer in electric mobility, today announce an agreement to launch a comprehensive EV charging offer for the European market, starting in the United Kingdom.

This initiative introduces two complementary solutions: a Smart Unidirectional (V1G) AC charging station, compliant with the UK EVSCP standard, and an Advanced Bidirectional (V2G) AC charging station, which powers the Vehicle-to-Everything energy services Nissan will offer to its customers. Through this contract, Valeo provides the electrification technologies for Nissan’s integrated energy ecosystem, expanding both companies’ footprint in the electric vehicle market

The new bidirectional charging station as well as Valeo’s total charging offer will be presented from June 23 till 25 at Power2Drive Europe  (Munich), Hall 6 , Booth 416.

From charging to energy freedom: realizing the full V2G potential

The electric vehicle is no longer simply a mode of transport — it is becoming an active participant in the energy ecosystem. This launch reflects this  fundamental shift since Nissan EV drivers can move from optimized unidirectional charging to smart bidirectional energy exchange.

Valeo’s charging offer covers the full spectrum of needs:

  • Connected Unidirectional (V1G) : Charging station which provides intelligent charging that adapts to grid signals and energy pricing, fully compliant with the UK EVSCP (Electric Vehicles Smart Charge Points) standard. Drivers benefit from optimized charging costs while contributing to grid stability, without any hardware complexity.
  • Smart Bidirectional (V2G- vehicle to grid ) :  Charging technology that enables a continuous, intelligent dialogue between the electric vehicle and the grid, allowing energy stored in the vehicle battery to be fed back when demand is high — reducing costs, balancing the grid, and generating new value for the driver.

Valeo’s bidirectional (V2G) charging technology allows Nissan’s compatible electric vehicles to become mobile energy reservoirs and supply power to the wider grid.

What this means for eligible EV Nissan drivers

For customers, the benefits are immediate and long-term:

  • Lower energy costs: Customers can lower their electricity bills by charging their vehicles when electricity rates are at their lowest.  The system also allows owners to use stored energy power to their homes during peak price periods or to maximize the use of their own solar-generated electricity.
  • Sustainability contribution: By actively participating in grid balancing, drivers play a direct role in supporting the integration of renewable energy sources.

The commercial rollout in Nissan’s network will begin in the United Kingdom followed by other European countries.

Isabelle D’Ambrosio, Vice President Smart Mobility at Valeo, stated: “This major contract with Nissan represents a decisive step in Valeo’s ambition to shape the future of electric mobility. By combining Valeo’s technological leadership in bidirectional charging with Nissan’s vision for an integrated energy ecosystem, we are redefining the electric vehicle as a critical asset for the grid. Together, we are accelerating the energy transition across Europe, with innovative solutions that benefit both drivers and grid stability.”

Soufiane El Khomri, Nissan Energy Services Director declared: “This agreement with Valeo marks a concrete step in how Nissan is redefining its vehicles as energy assets, not just mobility products. By integrating Valeo’s bidirectional charging technology into our V2X service offer, we are giving our customers in Europe the tools to actively manage their energy, reduce costs, and contribute to grid resilience — while driving the transition to a smarter, more sustainable energy model.”
