High Voltage Rare Earth Free Electric Motor

Last update: 15 Jan. 2024

What is a Rare Earth Free motor?

Rare earth elements (REE) such as Neodymium and Dysprosium are generally used in permanent magnet motors, in electric vehicles. Valeo developed an EV motor without rare earth element in it.

In 2022, Valeo launched the development of the next generation of Electrically Excited Synchronous Motor (EESM) with hairpin stator. This is an electric motor without magnet and thus without rare earth.
